ACTION!

JEWEL, PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL OBJECT /
BODY, TOOL AND SUPPORT

EMMANUEL LACOSTE

Contemporary jewellers follow the pure tradition of contemporary art by interrogating their own practice: what is jewellery? When, how and why is it worn? What does it tell about its wearer? etc. In order to push further this research, jewellery hybridizes itself and merges with sculpture, installation, or even performance. And this interdisciplinarity is based on natural links. Example: if the body is the referent shelf in the jeweller’s work, it is as well the original tool of the performing artist.

ACTION! proposes the point of view of artists exploring a medium which is not usually theirs. Thus, 5 performers took possession of the subject jewellery as a symbolic and social body artefact. Their visions are personal, even intimate, poetic, sometimes engaged. When in action, they reveal the secret or obvious links between the wearing body and the worn object.
